More About Me

I've been working on instruments most of my adult life. I have only been calling myself a luthier since 1998. That is when I developed high precision fretting techniques, started making guitar bridges from scratch, and got comfortable doing internal repairs on old Gibsons that were falling apart. I work on guitars, mandolins, banjos, and violins. I have considerable experience with prewar Gibson and Martin instruments. My customers include Norman Blake and Peter Ostroushko.

I can handle most aspects of string instrument repair. My specialty is precision fretwork. I can handle most types of banjo repair; however, I do NOT fit tone rings or make necks.

I warranty most work for one year. I am located in southeast Tennessee.

Comments

My name isAndrew Heck, and I live in Chattanooga. I have almost finished a new banjo that started with asking a few harmless questions of Mark Hickler of Hickler Banjos and has culminated with one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever held in my hands. I need help, though. Even though I was able to set the action, nut, and intonation, I know that it is capable of better tone than I can draw out of it with my limited experience. It is an 11” cherry openback with a wooden tone ring. Is this something you would want to take on? I look forward to turning this into a conversation. Thanks for your time. - aheck
