CD Reviews

Posted by Stev187 on Monday, January 1, 2007

Over the next couple of days, I am going to post two CD reviews on my banjo blog.  These are recordings I purchased on cassettes in the very early 90s.

  • Cathy Fink's Banjo Haiku (Community Music, 1992).
  • Joel Mabus' Clawhammer (Fossil, 1991).

Both recordings are now available on CD; if you pick them up, buy them directly from the artists on their web pages--just google their names and you'll find them.

For me, these two recordings represent fantastic clawhammer banjo musicality and technique.  I've often thought of them as instructional tapes--both banjo players have such clear technique, accurate phrasing, and wonderful dynamics.

I think reviewing these two recordings will help me think through my own playing style and skill as I get back into the banjo.
