Well, I'm a few weeks into my College experience now and I have to say that I think I am doing fairly well. Kind of a surprise to me. At the ripe old age of 50, I just knew it would be a real struggle.
You know, everyone likes to be liked and I suppose I'm no exception. I was just sure that I would be avoided. I mean, many of these young folks are away from home for the first time and I would suspect that the last thing they would want is a "parent " type hanging around. I'm sure that's true for some but, by and large, many of the kids are kind to me. It sure makes it more pleasant.
These young folks today are sharp!!! When I was their age, I wold not have been able to do this. I really didn't know how to learn. They just seem to absorb so much, so much easier and faster. I do think I have to put forth much more effort in my attempts to learn it.
The one thing that I have noticed however, is that professors seem to be more readily available to me. It maybe because it is pretty obvious that I am working at it while admittedly, many of the younger students seem not to really care. That's just an observation on my part and could very well be inaccurate.
Well, I'm enjoying it even though it is a lot of hard work for me. Of course, time well tell as to the success of my endeavor but I have every intention of succeeding.
It doesn't leave much time for my banjo though. I did however, get out to Brevard Music center yesterday to see "The Steep Canyon Rangers", "Claire Lynch", "Peter Rowan and Tony Rice" and Del McCoury. The weather was beautiful, The crowd was pleasant and the music was outstanding.
Peter Rowan Did some stuff from "Old and in the Way" and Tony Rice, while never issuing a word, picked like nobody's business.
The Steep Canyon Rangers just get better and tighter. They are gonna be one of the Bluegrass super groups.
Well, that's enough for now. I have some studying I need to get to.
