Well I think it's about time for my first ever Blog post, until now I haven't had a whole lot of news worth posting on here. But now with recent events, I feel it’s finally time to figure this blog thing out. First things first, starting in early March I am happy to announce that I will be starting my first solo Cd project! I am really excited and very honored to be recording for Tom Mindte on his Patuxent label; Tom has recorded Cd’s for some great banjo players. (Such as recent cd's for Jessie Baker & Chris Warner). On my record I will be privilaged and really excited to be playing with some of the greatest players in the business today. Michael Cleveland – fiddle, Marshall Wilborn – bass, Dominick Leslie – mandolin, Jake Stargel – guitar, Patrick McAvinue – fiddle, with Brandon Rickman –vocals, Marshall Wilborn – vocals and the Gold sisters – vocals. I play banjo with Gold Heart, and Jocelyn Gold has been busy writing two new songs especially for the cd, and all three Gold sisters (Analise, Jocelyn and Shelby) will be doing their three sister harmony on them! We've got some twin fiddle and banjo/fiddle tunes planned too! When it’s all said and done I think the Cd will be a really awesome and nice smooth blend of both traditional & newer styles. The Cd will hopefully be finished and available later this year, I will keep you guys posted with new updates as it unfolds. By the way, I don't have a name picked out for the cd yet, any ideas???
My other cool piece of news is the banjo that I will use on the project. It’s a brand new custom Huber Lancaster that Steve built for SPBGMA. It has the new HR-30 tone ring and Huber’s new hide glue rim. I haven’t even heard it yet, but from what Steve has said it’s a tone MONSTER! So if any of you guys are going to SPBGMA this week, you will get the chance to play my new axe before I do! I will put up a sound clip of the beast when I finally take delivery 2 weeks from now.
All the best,
Russ

looking forward to hearing you on a Huber and doing your banjo album. The sound bites will be fun to hear. I always thought you were too much in the shadows for being a top player.
