For Sale: Deering Sierra with custom graphite neck and extras - $1,300.00

This is a '99 Deering Sierra 5-string banjo, a pro-grade instrument with all the best features that affect tone and playability without the fancy (expensive) cosmetics. Satin mahogany resonator, maple rim, one piece cast zinc flange, bell bronze tone ring, etc. Awesome sound with lots of volume and low end power! Can keep up with any pro banjo out there. This one has also been customized with a Goldtone dot inlay graphite neck with radiused fingerboard, and has a matching radiused bridge. These necks are amazing (see http://www.angiesbanjo.com/Banjo%20Parts-RK/GT-banjo-parts/graphite-neck.htm). Improved tone, low action, and plays smooth as butter! The graphite is impervious to temp and humidity changes, perfectly straight, perfectly stable, and stronger than any wood. Truss rod adjusts smoothly. These necks cost $600, and I had it professionally installed. Keith D-tuner pegs (cost $200) on 2nd & 3rd strings. Spikes on 5th string frets 7 & 9. Banjo excellent condition throughout. Comes with quality Deering logo arch-top hard shell case. Original Deering mahogany neck with all original tuners also included (peghead has a small crack in the wood on the back, but is still useable as is). More photos available on request. I have loved this banjo. Only selling because I recently acquired a vintage rosewood OME Juggernaut (wow).

For Sale: Nechville Walnut Phantom and Tenor Neck - $3,900.00

Two banjos for a great price (2 necks & one pot). The Nechville necks (Phantom tunneled 5th and tenor) interface with the Helimount frame to allow you to swap the necks out in a matter of minutes with a simple allen key. At this time I would like to sell these together. It is basically mint but almost 2 years old now so I'll say excellent.

This is a beautiful 2008 Nechville Walnut Phantom cared for dearly with the following specs:

    * Premium Black Walnut neck and Fancy Burl Walnut resonator
    * Tunneled 5th String
    * Natural Clear coat Nechville Finish
    * Durable Black Eclipse Helimount frame
    * Slightly wider, comfortable neck profile
    * Curly Maple Binding with black/white stripe
    * Natural Cocobolo Fingerboard.
    * Super Smooth High Ratio Right angle Tuning pegs
    * 20 hole Megaphonic Bell Bronze Tone ring
    * Nechville's exclusive Cyclotronic Rolling Rim pot system.
    * 3 Ply Maple Rim
    * Select Cocobolo Fingerboard with Compound 7-12" Radius Shape
    * Premium Hard Shell Case, with adjustment tools and manual

I am selling this also with a 19 fret walnut Nechville radiussed tenor neck that I had made by Nechville in early 2009. The walnut tenor neck is ebony with no inlay and curly maple binding to match the original resonator of the Phantom. The original hardshell 5-string case included. The tenor neck to be shipped within in a separate box.

For Sale: Flesher Old Virginia - $1,900.00

From flesherbanjos.com:

"This is an open-back banjo for the person who dares to be different. Styled after the old minstrel banjos of the 1840s, it has a scroll peghead and half bracket shape on the fingerboard below the 5th string. These shapes were used to identify fret positions on the old fretless banjos. The neck is made of select curly maple with a back strap of black and curly maple which forms a V on the back of the neck. There is a black/maple/black lamination below the peghead, fingerboard, rim cap and boat-shaped heel. The fingerboard and peghead has a mirror image inlay at the nut, and ornate inlays at the 5th fret and at the bottom of the neck, all intricately engraved. The rim has wood marquetry inside and out just above the black rim cap and has 18 brackets and a "No Knot" tailpiece."

Added: This banjo has a 12" rim and has 28 brackets and also a renaissance head. Like most of Bob's banjos, it comes with an ebony tone ring. It has 16 frets up to where the inlay appears near the pot. This is not a scoop, but there are simply no frets, plenty of space for playing over the neck. Too many banjos, not enough time- and has been barely played. Hardshell case and armrest that came with banjo from Bob Flesher included.

2003 Gold Star GF-85 with original Gator hard case for sale.

Serial #030081

This is one of the early re-issue Gold Stars. The first 100 produced came with a Jimmy Cox rim and resonator, which I believe is a significant upgrade on both parts, especially the rim. The tuners have been upgraded. I also added a Prucha Presto tailpiece in place of the original. No spikes or sliding capo ever installed. Flange has a slight pull at the neck area. No scratches, dents, dings or repairs.

This is definitely a great banjo for the money. You won't be disappointed.

Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions.

For Sale: Kel Kroydon Floor Sweep with Tony Pass Rim-!!!!!MUST SELL!!!! Make an offer - $1,800.00

This is the same banjo that I have listed before, only now much cheaper!!!! Price is negotiable and I have to take the BEST OFFER!!!! I am the only owner and I know the banjo has been babied. I hate to sell but I'm about to be laid off with a new baby (my third) and a new house payment. Priorities first. Fitch, Frailin', Tony Pass, Tom Mirisola, among others can vouch for this banjo. The price is worth it, and I think it's fair. Comes with ohsc. The headstock is pictured as my homepage photo. The pics show wear on the armrest and a few slight nicks that add character on the case. I have had spikes professionally installed on 7 and 9. Presto tailpiece, Neck and bridge made by Rob Smith, Tony Pass Thin Skirt Rim, JLS#4 tone ring and Steve Gill resonator. AMAZING banjo---truly heirloom quality!!! Thanks for all the comments and emails I have already received just after one day. The resonator has what I call "normal" scratches but only in the finish; not even close enough to be into the wood; I tried to show that in the last picture. You have to turn the res' sideways to let the light hit it to see the scratches. Call for more questions or I could email more pics if needed, but only to interested individuals.

For Sale: Ramsey 11" Maple Special - $1,000.00

This banjo is a real gem. An 11'' inch pot Ramsey Special complete with Saturn inlay in the headstock. Bough this banjo to replace a 12" Ramsey that was tragically stolen, the ONLY reason I am selling this beauty is that I really miss the sound of a 12" pot. I am a big dude who plays hard, and the 12" just fits me better. That being said, just this week I played in a raucous jam and this instrument certainly holds it's own. The banjo is in great shape, and comes with a sweet hard case. The only blemish is a slight chip in the finish on the headstock( see photo). Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you!!!!!

For Sale: Osborne Chief #92 - $4,200.00

The time has come for me to give up playing. I have focal dystonia and can no longer play. This banjo deserves to go to someone who will play it. I bought this banjo used two years ago and have performed and recorded with it. It is by far the best banjo I've ever owned and I wish I could continue playing it. It is the standard Maple Osborne Chief. Gold plated, Blaylock tone ring. It has a set of Ugly Tuners which are to coolest tuners around. You can't help but want to use them on every song as they are easy to use and stay in tune.

The price of $4200.00 includes the banjo, the Dogwood strap, a Calton Case, and the Ugly Tuners. When I purchased the banjo, it came in a Delta Triangluar case. I purchased a Calton (still in immaculate condition) and the Ugly Tuners. I am willing to sell the banjo by itself with the Delta case for $3700.00. I would then sell the Calton for $500.00, and the Ugly Tuners for $200.00. But I'd like to sell the whole package at $4200.00 if possible.

I will be posting pictures in the next few days.

If you want the vital statistics of this banjo go to www.goldtone.com. I am going to spend my ad space trying to accuratley describe some minor cosmetic flaws on this one,so you know what your getting! I am the second owner of this banjo. I bought it form a dealer who played it himself for a month. He put a spike at the 7th. fret, right next to(north of) the fret. He did a crappy job,so i pulled it out,and instaled one in the middle of the fret(Richie Dotson style). I never finished filling the hole left by his spike, its half full of ebony dust/super glue mixture,so is still visible. Also I hit the top of the 5th. string tuner with the file by accident during this process, which rubbed the nickel plating off in a small spot...This is why I graded this banjo as very good instead of excelent.Frets are good, show slight wear in spots here and there from playing,no buzz problems. It has a couple chips in the finish, one where a clasp from my strap rubbed it off, near second bracket from neck on outside of pot. Another chip is inside pot, next to coordinator rod. Has a 1/4 in. long check in the finish near the nut on top of the neck. Other minor wear on bottom of rim from playing. Little worn looking on side of heel from strap rubbing it. All these cosmetic defects are negligable, and only exsist because of the thick shinny finish on this banjo. Small bit of scuffing on the Renaisance head in usual spots from clawhammer playing. The factroy bridge has a small chip next to one of the slots(does not affect anything),and is getting kinda bowed. I have no case for this banjo. Comes with wrench for rim hardware, and allen wrench for truss rod.If you are unsatisfied in any way with the banjo, within 3 days let me know, and we can do a return. This banjo has served me well, and sounds wonderful! I have to get rid of it because I just got a new banjo...
I did a review of this banjo on this website when I first got it 7 months ago.

For Sale: 1958 Gibson RB 150 with Burlile tonering - $3,700.00

Hi, here a fine sounding old Gibson bowtie. I bought it from Bernunzio store, then i sent the rim to Mr Jim Burlile to cut it and to fit his 20 holes unplated Burlile tonering. The original 5 string neck had a bad repaired peghead crack so i replaced it with a wonderful walnut Frank Neat neck (the original neck come with the banjo ). The final result shocked me !!! This banjo sound amazing with a wonderful prewar tone and a lot of power. The pot is all original ( Presto tailpiece apart of course ) and the hardware is still shining, only resonator show his age but all is solid and intact. The banjo has never been refinished or replated ! Frets are in great shape, just minimal wear. It comes with his original, and very cool, case. The bridge is a Yates Ron Stewart model.

For Sale: Old Time Banjos - $200.00

Fretless 5-String Banjo (13-inch pot)

I have been making banjos with the object being to make a basic, almost primitive banjo similar to the ones common around the Civil War era. I also wanted to come up with a banjo that had a good sound and would be very playable for clawhammer style.

Pictures show some examples of the banjos I make. Banjos are priced $200 to $450, depending upon features requested.

Banjos have 13" three-ply white oak pots, maple necks, calfskin heads, and fiddle tuners. The necks are scooped in order to give plenty of room for frailing and still keep close action where the neck is played.

Basic tackhead model with square headstock is $200, plus $18 shipping.

Basic tensioning models have a brass tension hoop with 10 brackets and shoes. $300, plus $18 shipping.

These banjos are very basic, but very playable. If you are looking for something with perfect fit and finish (factory banjo), these banjos are not right for you. If you are looking for something that really does the trick for old time music, these banjos sound and work great.

Satisfaction is guaranteed. If you purchase a banjo and discover that it really isn't right for you, I will refund your money, less shipping costs, once the banjo is returned.

Buyer pays flat rate of $18.00 for shipping within the continental US (includes insurance). Cost to ship international will be calculated based on buyer's location.

Thanks! --Eric

For Sale: Orpheum Number 3 price reduced - $900.00

Orpheum Number 3 "special" 4-string open back tenor banjo. 17 fret, outer diameter of pot 11 5/8 inches (see pic).

Beautiful instrument, ornately inlaid with mother of pearl and abalone, all hand carved and inlaid. Recently inspected and set up by a first class string instrument only shop.

All components are there although arm rest needs to be soldered or glued. (a very easy fix). Fingerboard is flat and straight, not warped, no cracks, some finger wear on some of the first three frets, frets all good, no fret work required, intonation great, white calf skin head, original tuners! Includes original case although case back needs to be glued or otherwise repaired. Sausage style leather handle is in great shape.

See pics. One thing I want to point out, and it is shown in a pic is there is a small crack, which is a "flake" crack. You will see it on the neck heel. The crack is cosmetic only. You can press it flat and it disappears. Another simple repair that I will let you do. But again this is NOT structural and appears to have been there for years. You can fix it, leave as-is without worry and if it ever did flake off you could just glue it back on. This is not an issue except for the most picky collectors and even then easily fixed. A drum head couple tension hooks are very slightly bent. Look closely at pics. I want to be 100% open and clear on exactly what condition this banjo is in. I can take a video and email it to anyone who wants to see a movie showing all possible angles, etc. Again all inlay is intact and never repaired.

I bought this banjo but have decided I will probably never play it and it's worth too much and too rare to just hang on my wall. This is the number 3 "special. I will answer any additional questions as-needed.

Maple 5-string neck made for this banjo by Frank Neat, Flying Eagle inlay. I do not have the have original neck. Rim cut and Huber long-skirt tone ring installed by Steve Huber. I do not have the original hoop. Neck installed and banjo set up by Frank Neat.

Original resonator. Original one-piece flange, no missing pieces, no cracks that I can see. Typical aging to the finish. Flange is pulled up a few millimeters near the neck. Original Gibson tailpiece comes with the banjo, currently has a modern-day Presto. Original tension hoop and brackets. One bracket has been replaced, broken one comes with the banjo. Original armrest with typical wear. Huber-Remo head. Snuffy Smith Style III bridge. Tuners are not original.

No structural issues or major cosmetic problems. Frets are in good shape. Binding along the neck, especially on the first-string side, has hairline cracks that you can see if you look. Side of resonator has typical scratches on the treble side and near the tailpiece.

I would describe the sound as punchy. It can be loud if you pick that way. I used this banjo on the 2006 Michael Cleveland CD “Let ‘Er Go, Boys.” If you have that CD you can hear the banjo on Montana Cowboy, Bright and Early, Sugar Tree Stomp and Durham's Reel.

I bought this banjo from Steve Huber. Before that it was owned by Billy Anderson of Virginia, who had it converted from a tenor. I’m selling it because I bought a mahogany banjo whose sound I prefer.

$4800.00. Comes with leather strap and TKL hard shell case. Payment by certified bank check or money order. Shipping will be via UPS 2nd-day air. Buyer pays shipping and insurance for the sale price, which will be less than $180 in the lower 48. 24-hour approval period. I am in southern New England and will drive a couple of hours to avoid shipping. For an in-person sale, cash only. Two percent to the Hangout if it sells here. Happy to answer any questions.

For Sale: 2007 Huber Kalamazoo with FLAT Fretboard and satin finish - $3,300.00

All the bang and clang attributed to much more expensive banjos, this one features a satin finish mahogony resonator and rim, straight grain maple neck and nickel hardware. Wadsworth (not the Scorpion pictured) 5/8" bridge (goes better with the new made-in-USA Remo head I just put on). FLAT fretboard, rather than the usual radiused. Eye catching pigment pattern to Brazilian Rosewood fretboard makes it look almost like cocobolo. I have owned this banjo as a hobbyist closet picker/collector for just over two years and spread my picking out over 7 other banjos, so fret wear is minimal, with only a couple of slight indentations on first and second frets--barely enough to mention but not even enough to consider having dressed (see picture 9). No marks anywhere on the banjo except for slightest scuff on edge of headstock that should polish out easily; never played out anywhere (MY limitations, not the banjo's; people expect you to be able play pretty well if you bring something like this out =). Neck set by Arthur Hatfield last year. Sells new for $4125 but this one can be had for $3400, original case included. Not anxious to sell, but need to finance another project; sorry, but no trades for this reason.

1985 beautiful Deering Banjo for sale... With the economy so bad, can't afford not to sell it. Made from Tiger maple, rosewood fretboard and excellent engraving. Beautiful banjo, Golden Era engraving hand etched by Greg Deering and to top it all off it sounds awesome! Big and full with clear cutting highs and it frets and plays beautifully, not to mention feels great around your hand even way up the neck. Im trying to ask 2500 . Thanks for looking! Banjo was owned by Dan Tyminski of Alison Krauss's band Union Station. Bought it from him a few years back. Great banjo.
